We don’t have a call centre and we don’t use anyone else to bring someone into our care*. It is us that look after your special person at our premises in Heathfield, every step of the way. There is a lot to consider when arranging a funeral, but we are here to guide and support you and your family. By talking to you about the person who has passed away and listening carefully, we can let you know all the options open to you; so together we can create a truly unique funeral for them.  Our website provides the key information that you need to know. Anything else can be explored with a phone call, email or in person. We are always happy to have a no obligation chat about how White Feather can support you at your time of need.

Choose a funeral director who chooses to be regulated.

We look after the people in our care, how we’d like to be treated ourselves and have an open door policy for any families to be able to see our facilities. So, you can be assured that everyone in our care is treated with the utmost respect and dignity. We are members of a trade body called SAIF (Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors), which means we have to adhere to a strict code of practice and be regularly inspected, assuring you of the highest standards. Our premises were described in our last inspection as ‘excellent, lovely and welcoming’ with ‘excellent and very respectful procedures in place’; along with ‘excellent mortuary facilities, with great sensitivity and transparency shown’.

We are not a large chain of funeral directors with lots of branches, but a small family run business. We don’t have the overheads of these larger companies, which means that we endeavour to offer the best value for money that we can, to the families that we support. We live and work in your community, so for us – it’s always personal.

Association of Green Funeral Directors

We believe the funeral industry should be concerned about their carbon footprint, which is why we offer a full range of coffins to our families, from the traditional wood and wood veneer, to natural alternatives like willow, wicker, bamboo and cardboard. We have also looked at other areas in the business where we can opt for environmentally friendly alternatives. This ranges from only using eco cleaning products, supplying service sheets on 100% recycled card,  the reuse of shredded documents to create coffin pillows and sharing another funeral director’s fleet to avoid more cars on the road. All of these endeavours mean we are now Leaf 2 members of the AGFD’s Oak Leaf Scheme.

SAIF

We are members of the Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) who have stringent codes of practice to abide by. They carry out inspections of their members premises to maintain compliance, to ensure the highest standards of care for the people in our care.

To the families we support, it signals our independence, means we are regularly inspected and offers the assurance that we are duty bound to adhere to the organisation’s strict Code of Practice.

Funeral Directors do not currently have to belong to a trade association. If you want to know the company you are dealing with are accountable, it’s worth checking if they are members of either of our two trade bodies – SAIF or NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors). Don’t just look at what they say, visit the websites of these associations and check for yourself.
